Beatlemania is still alive and well in London

Thanks to a young man by the name of Richard Porter, the young and old can still be introduced to the Beatles history and landmarks in London.  Richard was president of the Beatles Fan Club from 1988 until just recently.  He has written a book entitled Guide to the Beatles' London.  Richard took us on a two hour Magical Mystery Tour of Beatles sites, including among many sites, the Palladium, where they made their first television appearance on Sunday Night at the Palladium, the place where Yoko Ono and John Lennon first met, the sound studios where Hey Jude was recorded (along with Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody and Elton John's Goodbye Yellow Brick Road), Abbey Road Studios and the very popular Abbey Road crosswalk which appeared on the cover of their last album, Abbey Road.

Here is Kelly walking on the Abbey Road crosswalk with friend, Sue (who owns every original Beatles record ever made).

The Beatles began recording at Abbey Road studios in 1962.  Among other classics, they recorded  All You Need is Love and Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band in these studios.  Abbey Road Studios are still used by many famous acts and are still visited by countless Beatles fans who paint graffiti on the walls outside.  In fact, the walls need to be repainted every three months.

3 Saville Road is the location for the Beatles' former Apple Studios.  The Beatles gave an impromptu performance here on January 30, 1969 which attracted fans from all around town.  The nearby shop owners called the police to break up the noisy performance.  While the police station was only 5 minutes away, it took 40 minutes for them to finally show up.  They probably did not want the show to come to an end.  Even after they finally showed up, they honored John's request to complete the song, Get Back.  This roof top concert also appeared on their Let it Be film,

Red buses and now the Tube.  What a fashionable way to get around.

The Changing of the Guard at the Buckingham Palace is a mandatory stop on any tour of London. It is quite a pomp and circumstance.

These guards look like the guys from the Wizard of Oz.
